23|24 MAINSTAGE SEASON
From a seed planted during our very first BIPOC Playwrights Festival, BCT harvests a World Premiere this October about social injustice, personal sacrifice, and love of country. This Holiday season, tickle your wishbone with a roasting satire by the first female Native American playwright to open on Broadway! In 2024, we serve up another killer fresh from Broadway with a character from our last season. Spring brings a true tale that explores a woman’s place in the world while making discoveries across the Universe.

World Premiere
Middle of the World
by Juan José Alfonso
October 11 - 28, 2023
From our very first BIPOC Playwrights Festival, this story from an LA playwright was a new work BCT helped develop and is now proud to present as a world premiere!

The Thanksgiving Play
by Larissa FastHorse
November 29 - December 16, 2023
Good intentions collide with absurd assumptions in Larissa FastHorse’s wickedly funny satire, as a troupe of terminally “woke” teaching artists scrambles to create a pageant that somehow manages to celebrate both Turkey Day and Native American Heritage Month.

Clyde's
by Lynn Nottage
January 31 - February 17, 2024
A truck stop sandwich shop offers its formerly incarcerated kitchen staff a shot at redemption. Even as the shop’s callous owner tries to keep them down, the staff members learn to reclaim their lives, find purpose, and become inspired to dream by their shared quest to create the perfect sandwich.

Silent Sky
by Lauren Gunderson
April 17 - May 4, 2024
A true story exploring a woman’s place in society during a time of immense scientific discoveries and the women’s suffrage movement. In the early 1900s, astronomer Henrietta Leavitt joined a group of women “computers” at Harvard Observatory, charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculated projects in “girl hours.” These women’s ideas were dismissed until men claimed credit for them, but Henrietta Leavitt and her female peers’ dedication forever changed how we understand the heavens and Earth.
Commissioned and first produced by South Coast Repertory with support from the Elizabeth George Foundation.
