24|25 MainStage Season

24|25 MAINSTAGE SEASON

This is a season of homecoming, home building, of crossing the threshold.

Three of these plays are returning home to BCT. They were all presented as readings last season and were so well received that we are moving them to the mainstage. One was developed at our BIPOC Playwrights Festival, which continues to foster some of the best art we make here at BCT. We are establishing ourselves as a home for World Premiere plays by some of the nation’s most exciting emerging and established writers.

Two of these plays will be helmed by Broadway Directors, who will cross our threshold for the first time.

These are stories that examine how where we come from informs who we will be in the world. They include conversations with our past selves, they examine our aspirations for family and community, and they celebrate the people who lift us up.

Join us at the American Legion Hall in Wenatchee for Pulitzer Prize Finalist What the Constitution Means to Me. Experience the genre-changing, one-man musical The Lion – a smash hit that delighted and moved audiences on Broadway and beyond, directed by Sean Daniels, who has been with the play from its inception. Revisit Los Angeles’ celebrated production of On The Other Hand We’re Happy, performed by the original cast and directed again by award-winning director Cameron Watson. Welcome back the profoundly expressive humanity of Idaho’s Samuel Hunter as he makes A Case for the Existence of God. And experience the partnership of BIPOC Playwrights Festival author Novid Parsi and Broadway director Kimberly Senior as they usher in a World Premiere production of the touching, funny, and deeply beautiful The Life You Gave Me.

What the Constitution Means to Me

by Heidi Schreck

October 2-19, 2024

~90 mins, Dramatic Comedy

Playwright Heidi Schreck’s boundary-breaking play breathes new life into our Constitution and imagines how it will shape the next generation of Americans. Fifteen-year-old Heidi earned her college tuition by winning Constitutional debate competitions across the United States. In this hilarious, hopeful and achingly human new play, she resurrects her teenage self in order to trace the profound relationship between four generations of women and the founding document that shaped their lives.

The Lion

by Benjamin Scheuer

December 4-21, 2024

Directed by Broadway & Off-Broadway Director and NY Times Critics Pick Sean Daniels

This Drama Desk Award-winning piece by Benjamin Scheuer has redefined the genre of musical theatre. Scheuer tells, sings, and plays the turbulent story of his family and his own brush with mortality, with his supporting cast of six guitars. “A mesmerizing guitarist,” Scheuer’s “songs are awfully well-constructed; there’s a hint of Paul Simon in Scheuer’s easy, knowing lyrics and disciplined musicianship,” says The Washington Post. The New York Times says Scheuer “gets to the heart of the matter” in this celebrated autobiographical show. Like its hero, THE LION roars.

On the Other Hand, We're Happy

by Daf James

January 22 - February 8, 2025

Directed by Award-winning Off-Broadway Director Cameron Watson, whom the Wall Street Journal calls “the best in the country.”

~90 minutes with no intermission

A single dad meets his adopted daughter for the first time. Then he agrees to meet her birth-mother. When their two worlds collide, will what they have in common outweigh their differences? A one-off meeting. But three lives will be changed forever. One the One Hand, We’re Happy is a tender, funny, hopeful play about being a mum when your name is Dad.

A Case for the Existence of God

by Samuel D. Hunter

March 5-22, 2025

~90 mins, Drama

Keith, a mortgage broker, and Ryan, a yogurt plant worker seeking to buy a plot of land that belonged to his family many decades ago, realize they share a “specific kind of sadness.” At this desk in the middle of America, loan talk opens up into a discussion about the chokehold of financial insecurity and a bond over the precariousness of parenthood. With humor, empathy and wrenching honesty, Hunter commingles two lives and deftly bridges disparate experiences of marginality.

World Premiere

The Life You Gave Me

by Novid Parsi

April 23-May 10, 2025

Directed by Award-winning Broadway & Off-Broadway Director Kimberly Senior

~60-90 mins, experimental dark comedy/drama
