5X5 READING SERIES

Lungs
By Duncan Macmillan
January 30 @ 7 pm

The world is getting hotter, there’s unrest overseas — the seas themselves aren’t calm — and one couple is considering having a child. Lungs is a smart, funny drama that follows a couple through their relationship as they grapple with family and change, happenstance, and the ways we hurt and heal the ones we love.

“…Brutally honest, funny, edgy and current. It gives voice to a generation for whom uncertainty is a way of life…” — The Guardian

Collective Rage: A Play in Five Boops
By Jen Silverman
February 27 @ 7 pm

Betty is rich; Betty is lonely; Betty’s busy working on her truck; Betty wants to talk about love, but Betty needs to hit something. And Betty keeps using a hand mirror to stare into parts of herself she’s never examined. Five different women named Betty collide at the intersection of anger, sex, and the “thea-tah.” Explicit language.

Incognito
By Nick Payne
March 13 @ 7 pm

A pathologist steals the brain of Albert Einstein; a neuropsychologist embarks on her first romance with a woman; a seizure patient forgets everything but his love for his girlfriend. Incognito braids these mysteries into one breathtaking whole that asks whether memory and identity are nothing but illusions.

She Kills Monsters
By Qui Nguyen
April 24 @ 7 pm

A comedic romp into the world of fantasy role-playing games, She Kills Monsters is a high-octane dramatic comedy laden with homicidal fairies, nasty ogres, and 90s pop culture from acclaimed young playwright Qui Nguyen.

Rabbit/Moon
By Dwayne Blackaller and Matthew Cameron Clark
May 8 @ 7 pm

More than 200,000 miles from home in a place called the Sea of Clouds, NASA Commander Rebecca Stuart is losing contact with the world. One of her crew members, Will Lundon, has been stranded across the sea and has begun the forty-five mile trek back to the lunar lander that will take him safely home. The sun has set, and in the darkness of the lunar night, Stuart and London find themselves struggling to reconcile an impossible truth. A play about ancient myths and modern marvels, of records and revolution, of sound and the space between us. Sometimes your only lifeline is a story.

CHILDREN’S READING SERIES

BUNNICULA
October 23 @ 2 pm

“This semi-musical is a fanciful, non-scary Halloween treat for the kid inside all of us.” – Talkin’ Broadway
A dancing cat, a howling dog, and a vampire bunny. The perfect pet combination for any family. Singing and dancing their way through this hilarious mystery, the furry friends of the Monroe house find room in their hearts, and in their home, for one very unique bunny.

HOW HIGH IS UP?
November 13 @ 2 pm

“The ideas expounded are comforting and profound, the language employed is beautiful.” – Time Out
Little Star and the Bird Who Has No Wings face an extraordinary journey to meet the Magicians of Roaring Winds, Pouring Rain and Silent Snow to stop Time. Watched over by the Sun and the Moon, Little Star reaches an unexpected shore. Full of music and movement, this magical play celebrates life in all its changes and its lasting truths.

STUBBY PRINGLE’S CHRISTMAS + A CHILD’S CHRISTMAS IN WALES
December 18 @ 2 pm
December 19 @ 7 pm

The Christmas Interludes is a Boise holiday tradition that began with a handful of Idaho Shakespeare Festival actors in the 1980s. Over the years it grew to a seasonal fixture at the Egyptian, the College of Idaho, and all points around the Treasure Valley. After a ten year hiatus, the team is back, with new actors, fresh scripts, and beautiful, traditional holiday music sure to delight audiences of all ages. Stubby Pringle’s Christmas is based on the beloved children’s story by Western author Jack Schaefer.

THE EVERLASTING DREAM
by Dayna Smith
February 26 @ 2 PM

When her classmate refuses to let her play baseball with the boys and her friend Connor fails to stick up for her, Alexis feels she’ll never be seen as equal. A whirlwind of frustration and a foul ball later, and Alexis and Connor are sent back in time to the 1930s—a time where equal treatment of others is notably absent and discrimination is in full force. They meet Marty, a doubtful boy without much faith in the possibility of change. Can they convince Marty to rise to find his place in history? And can they make any progress against discrimination with just some hope and an old textbook at their fingertips?

RAJPURR: TALE OF A TIGER
by Heidi Kraay
March 19 @ 2 PM

When Rajpurr loses the world as she knows it, she heads out with her bunny friend Bhampo and tag-a-long caterpillar Carl to find her father so he can teach her how to hunt. This play about friendship, adventure and transformation asks big questions about loss on a quest to reunite this young tiger with her family.
