OUR MISSION:  to create theater that invites us all to imagine something new.

OUR VISION:   BCT will be a nationally recognized originator of great plays with a welcoming production and education facility in the heart of Boise’s Cultural District that serves as an inspiring creative home for an expanding family of artists, students and patrons.

OUR CULTURE:   In all the aspects of what we do, from the rehearsal room to the audience experience to our relationships with the City of Boise and the American Theater as whole, we value Collaboration, Respect, Challenge, Gratitude, and Celebration.

THE SEASON:   Each year Boise Contemporary Theater presents a season of full productions from September through May, with an emphasis on new work. In the last eight seasons alone, we have produced thirty-three plays, including fourteen World Premieres. Our first-run performances have included work from local playwrights like Lynn Allison, Tom Willmorth, Joe Conley Golden, Dwayne Blackaller and Matthew Cameron Clark.

BCT is also proud to have premiered the plays of award-winning, nationally recognized playwrights such as Eric Coble, Lauren Weedman, Brian Quirk, Maria Dahvana Headley, Michael Rohd and Samuel D. Hunter.

BCT has also been home to a number of second productions, including LOVE-LIES-BLEEDING by Don DeLillo, GOD’S EAR by Jenny Schwarz, ANIMALS OUT OF PAPER by Rajiv Joseph, NAMASTE MAN and DAMASCUS by Andrew Weems, and QUESTIONS MY MOTHER CAN’T ANSWER by Andrea Caban.

In the spring of 2011, we launched BCT Theater Lab, an experimental theater education program devoted to the development of new work written and performed by young artists.

The 5X5 Reading Series, fresh ink from today’s most talented playwrights, is celebrating its twenty first season this year, and introduces five new plays from five great writers in professional readings & lively discussions. It expands the opportunities for the Boise community to experience the diversity found in contemporary theater and assists BCT in evaluating plays for future production. The BCT Children’s Reading Series is an opportunity to introduce the youngest members of our community to contemporary plays accompanied by music, puppets, and shadowplay.
